beat around [about] the bush
to talk about something for a long time without coming to the main point

“the bush”には、「やぶ」という意味があるので、
“beat around the bush”は、藪のまわりを叩いて、
獲物を駆り立てるということから、
「遠回しに言う」「なかなか要点に触れない」という意味になります。
（イギリス英語では、“beat about the bush”と言うことが多いようですね。）
そして、これが“Don’t beat around the bush.”というふうに、
否定形の命令文になると、
「遠回しに言わないで」「回りくどい言い方をしないで」
「はっきり言ってよ」「だから、何なの？」
などという意味になります。
“Stop beating around the bush.”も同様の意味になりますね。
また、類似の表現として、以前に学習した“Get to the point.”
「要点を言ってよ」などがあります。
“Don’t beat around the bush and answer my question.”
「遠回しに言わないで、私の質問に答えてよ」
